How to Ensure Employers Can Find You
How to Enaya Employers Can Find YouHow to Ensure Employers Can Find YouWhen youre conducting a job search, you need to make it easy for employers to find you online. Employers, who can be inundated with resumes when they post jobs, often seek passive candidates (qualified candidates who arent necessarily looking for work, but who may be interested if the right job comes along). Anyone who doesnt want to pass up what could be an excellent opportunity should make their professional credentials readily accessible online. How Employers Find Applicants Candidate Sourcing In addition to reviewing resumes posted to their company websites and to job sites like Monster or CareerBuilder, employers are actively sourcing passive candidates. They are mining the Internet to find the best people to hire, regardless of whether the candidate has expressed interest in their company, or not. Besides spending time personally searching the Internet for candidates for employment, companies are using t echnology that will find applicants for them. Candidate sourcing programs like Airs Sourcepoint are utilized by many companies. Airs Sourcepoint, for example, not only searches all resume databases the hiring manager has access to, but also searches other candidate databases. Using systems like these, hiring managers can then contact candidates quickly and simply. Networking Sites In addition, recruiters and Human Resources managers are adding their own profiles to sites like LinkedIn, and making connections with potential candidates for employment. LinkedIn has members from all 500 of the Fortune 500 companies and covers 130 different industries. Consider how many potential contacts that is and be sure to connect with current and past co-workers, clients, and classmates, so youre getting the most out of your network. Job seekers can use passive candidate searching by employers to their advantage. What you need to do is to make your information (resume, skills, experience, etc.) fin dable when companies are looking for candidates. You need to edit and tweak your resume and the other information you have online, so you show up in the search results generated by employers who may have a job thats a good fit. Make Your Professional Information Available When you want employers to find you, its important that your resume and the profiles you post have specific information regarding your credentials and qualifications. Your resume should contain Keywords. If youre not sure what to include, use a job search engine like Indeed.com to search for jobs that match your qualifications. Once you come up with some terms that fit, use them in your resume. That way, you will be found by employers seeking candidates with similar qualifications.Job Titles. Employers are often interested in candidates with specific experience and will search for that i.e. Online Marketing Coordinator or Telephone Sales Manager.Qualifications. Be specific - if you have Microsoft Certification or an MBA, say so. Skills. Your resume should contain your most relevant skills that are a match for the job. Affiliations. List the professional organizations that you have joined. Update your resume regularly. Many resume databases have options so employers can search only the newest resumes or those posted with a certain period of time. So, youll need to update your resume frequently so its found. Your Profiles Career Networking Sites Networking sites are also an important source of passive candidates for employers. Create your profiles just as carefully as your resume. Include your experience as well as your education. Also, include your association memberships and even your personal interests. Once you have a profile, potential employers will be able to find you and you will be able to connect with other users who can help you with your career and employment goals. College Alumni Associations College graduates should always check with their alma mater to see what networking resources are available. Many colleges have alumni databases specifically designed for networking purposes. Alumni are often interested in recruiting candidates from their school, so its important to take advantage of whatever resources are available. Employer Alumni Associations In order to stay connected with past co-workers, former employees have created employer alumni associations. If your prior employers have associations, join them. Former colleagues will be able to help you with your future career plans. Professional Associations Do you belong to any professional associations? If so, see if they have a member database. Thats another good way to help potential employers find you. Keep Your Personal Information Private Making your information available online, by the way, precludes the personal information in your Facebook, Instagram, or other social networking accounts that wouldnt be appropriate for a hiring manager or recruiter to read. That personal information should be kept private, and only made accessible, to those people you are comfortable with seeing it. You can also limit the contact information viewable on your resume if you have privacy concerns. Your Professional Online Presence Its important to keep in mind that your online presence needs to be both professional and presentable. It doesnt matter how often your resume or your profile shows up if there are typos or grammatically errors. Its just as important to communicate professionally with your contacts - the people who contact you and vice versa. Make sure your emails and instant messages are composed appropriately - consider them business correspondence, just as a written letter or phone call would be. Finally, keep track of everywhere you have posted your resume and created profiles (and keep a password list, too). That way you can update frequently and stay on top of the information you have posted online.

How do you make a machinist resume? Its understandable to feel a little bit nervous when writing or updating your resume. After all, youre under some pressure to create a document that can capture the attention of hiring managers within seconds and will pass an Applicant Tracking System, a software program that weeds out resumes that do not contain desired keywords. With this in mind, you can use our machinist resume sample guide and turn to our resume builder as a step-by-step reference toward writing your own resume. With these tools as your disposal, you can create a straightforward layout that draws attention to your most impressive features.2. Whats the best length for a machinist resume? The best length for most resumes is one or two pages. A general guideline is one page with less than 10 years experience and more if youve been in the profession for a long time. Most hiring managers appreciate the chance to quickly check out an applicants top skills and previous experience. Within that one or two-page length, you may choose a chronological, functional, or combination format. Jobseekers stick to a chronological format when they are staying within one industry. Include a brief summary, work history, skills or qualifications, and education sections. Refer to our machinist resume sample for a good example of this. A functional resume is appropriate for jobseekers switching tracks or starting out. This format focuses on skills rather than work history, including a summary, skills section, and education section. The combination format places equal emphasis on skills and experience.3. What goes in the header of a machinist resume? As you can see in our machinist resume sample, your contact information is best displayed prominently in your header. You have the option of increasing the font size and color of your name, but stick to standard font styles here and throughout the document. After your name, include your phone number and an email address. If you have examples of your work on a website, you may want to include a link to that site. Some jobseekers list their city and state, but you arent under any obligation to provide your home address.4. What should go in the experience section of your machinist resume? One of the best ways to hold the attention of hiring managers is to list accomplishments instead of job duties in the experience section of your resume. In the machinist resume sample, the applicant refers to several duties and then provides specific numbers and outcomes to present accomplishments, such as in charge of five outbound trucks and keeping the freight in good condition. For each work history listing, include the dates of work, the name of the company, and your official title.5. What goes in the qualifications section of a machinist resume?Under the qualifications section of your resume, youll list between four and six of your most impressive skills or areas of competency. These skills should be appropriate for the level of work you hope to perform. For example, when applying for a mac hinist position, you dont need to list all of the tools you can use, but you should include your ability to use drawing software or to program equipment. Check out our machinist resume sample for some examples of the qualifications you should include.More Manufacturing and Production Resume TemplatesEntry Level Machinists Resume Templates

Stopping Power
Stopping Power Stopping Power Stopping Power Slamming on the brakes often comes with a good amount of cursing. The car that just cut you off, the jaywalking pedestrian, the exit you missed, all deserve a few foul words. For Alberto Boretti, University of Ballarat, Australia, the cursing is directed at the brakes themselves. The energy they use to slow his vehicle, or anyone elses, is gone, never to be recovereda source of endless frustration.Theres no good reason why it shouldnt be otherwise. A simple mechanical device that all the kids love in their toy cars is still not applied in production vehicles because of the lack of funding, says Boretti, who spent 20 years in the automotive industry before joining the faculty at the University of Ballarat as a professor of engineering.Kinetic Energy RecoveryIn 2009, the Formula One Team Association decided to allow this device for kids toys to be used in the speedier toys for bigger kids. The Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) came in m any varieties for the race cars, with the most promising storing the mechanical energy in a flywheel. The systems gave drivers a bit more acceleration, cut a theoretical fifth of a second off their lap time, and saved some energy. KERS were dropped from Formula 1 during the 2010 season (due to development costs) but are back again this year.An example of a KERS device used in Formula 1 racing. So far, though, the technology has not made it onto a car for the rest of us. To help prove that such a move would be a good idea, Boretti ran a simulation of a car with a flywheel KERS. In a paper he published in the International Journal of Vehicle Design, he showed that fuel consumption would be reduced by 2533% for a typical sedan and 20% for a diesel-powered engine. With mechanical energy being stored as mechanical energy before its used again, 70% of the braking energy is recovered. Compare that to the regenerative braking system that a Prius currently uses Braking is converted to electric al energy then stored as chemical energy before making the reverse journey back to help power the car. After all the losses along the way, the Prius system recovers only 30% of braking power.A KERS device system.Borettis computational experiments were made with and without the continually variable transmission used with the Formula 1 flywheel system. In plus-rechnen to this potential simplification, Borettis virtual design also used a vacuum pump, where other flywheels do their rotation in a sealed vacuum. In both cases, the idea was not to increase efficiency, but to cut costsin the hopes of luring future investors in research, as well as eventual customers. A stripped-down system like the one Boretti used would add only $400 to $500 to the price of a car. The extra cash could easily be recouped in fuel savings after just a year or so of driving. In the current economic climate, industries and governments arent looking to shell out the money needed to give drivers this choice. Peopl e are looking for a device that doesnt use carbon at alltheres a lot of pressure, but no money to develop a new idea. Its quite frustrating, says Boretti. The technology is already established. It just needs to be transformed to production.Michael Abrams is an independent writer.People are looking for a device that doesnt use carbon at all- theres a lot of pressure, but no money to develop a new idea.Alberto Boretti, professor of engineering, University of Ballarat, Australia

5 Ways to Spin Your Next Team Meeting
5 Ways to Spin Your Next Team Meeting What is the number one thing any worker is bound to experience in his or her professional life? Meetings. And the higher up the pay grade ladder you go, the more frequent they become. I dont know anyone who looks forward to their weekly kollektiv or department meeting, especially the ones held on the dreaded Monday morning. Lets be honest, most meetings can become boring and redundant, especially if you have to attend multiple in a given week. So, how do you create excitement for the weekly routine? I thought youd never ask. Below are five ways to spice up your next gruppe or department meeting and, hopefully, bring a new level of interest and enthusiasm to your employees andwell, you.RelocateMost often, gruppe meetings are in the same place at the same time on the same day. Its already becoming redundant just writing about it. Why not move your next meeting t o a different location, preferably outside of the office. Try a nearby Starbucks or caf that allots the needed space for you and your team to gather. Employees can purchase their favorite caf treats (or you can provide them as an added bonus) to get them in the relaxed, loose mood and away from the normal, boring office setting. Sometimes its just nice to get away.Show, Dont TellMost meetings consist of talking. As a matter of fact Im not sure how youd conduct a successful meeting without communicating. Lets take the norm out of your next gathering and cut down on so much talking. Demonstrate ideas, concepts or new initiatives to employees instead of outright telling them about these things. For example, if lack of communication is an issue to discuss on the agenda, give your team puzzle pieces and split them into groups. Have each team work together to rebuild the puzzle (a small one, of course). Afterward, explain how important communication is for the successof the team, justhow it wasto build the puzzle. Team members can also discuss how they communicated and why during the activity to ensure an active discussion. Showing versus telling takes the boring out of listening. (whew)Order InDo you usually provide food during team meetings? Even if its a short meeting, offering refreshments such as fruit, tea and snacks, helps. You can even put a theme on your weekly meetings to liven up the attendees. Why not have Taco Tuesdays or French fry Fridays? Or you can change the food type each meeting. One week can be Italian, the next Greek, the next American, and so forth. Food always brings in the crowd.Share the PowerThe boss usually runs the meeting, after all, thats one of the things he or she is paid to do. Try sharing the power during meetings. Maybe one meeting out of each month a different team member has the responsibility of running the meeting. Workers can send the employee items to put on the agenda and he or she will have full range to run the show. This can engage your team members and help them feel like one unit with equal parts. Of course, at the end of the day you are the boss, but sharing a little power every now and then can help workers feel dependable and valuable while simultaneously valuing your role as a manager.Surprise, SurpriseWho doesnt love a surprise? Bring in guest speakers or key people from the company every now and then to address staff during weekly meetings. The best surprise of all? Cancel the meeting
